Matching wall lights and lamps - Advice from HOTEL MEGASTORE -

Dazzle your guests with professional quality lighting !

Artificial lighting should not replace natural lighting, but complement it.

It participates in the creation of an atmosphere while adapting to the needs of the room. Here are our explanations for the choice of your lights:

► Distinguish between the different types of lighting:
- The so-called general lighting, which will illuminate the whole of a room, is obtained thanks to wall lights, suspensions and ceiling lights. With wall lights, you will play more the card of diffused lighting but not vertical.
- Functional lighting, which is used to illuminate only certain areas of a room: a desk, a work table, a mirror ... In general, orientable lamps, small table lamps or more e-readers.
- And finally the accent lighting, will stage a piece of furniture, a shelf or a work of art. Generally small, these lamps are directed at the element that we want to highlight.

► Each light has its own bulb: - Incandescent bulbs were the most classic bulbs but they are now banned in Europe.
- Compact fluorescent bulbs are low-consumption bulbs. More expensive than incandescent bulbs, they are also more profitable since their electricity consumption is 4 to 5 times less. Their lifespan is estimated to be between 6 and 12 years.
- Halogen bulbs diffuse an intense white light, they have a strong lighting power but consume a lot of electricity. Their lifespan is longer than those of incandescent bulbs but less than those of compact fluorescent bulbs. They are very greedy in electricity consumption.
- Very low voltage halogens are a variant of halogen bulbs. Like the latter, their lighting is similar to natural light but consumes very little electricity. In addition, they have a higher efficiency than conventional bulbs for a much lower electricity consumption.
- LED bulbs are the latest technology on the market. With a consumption that defies all competition: up to 80% energy savings compared to an incandescent bulb, they also have another advantage: a very long lifespan (10,000 to 30,000 hours of lighting ). They hardly heat up, and can be positioned on all types of lighting.

► Use the light well in your hotel: The way you will arrange your lights in the same room will help create an atmosphere.

- For a zen atmosphere: Prefer spotlights, wall lights or bedside lamps. Use low voltage or colored bulbs. Do not hesitate to multiply the sources of light. On the other hand, avoid direct lighting which tends to dazzle. You can also use a hanging lamp or a floor lamp, equipped with a dimmer.
- For a warm and welcoming atmosphere: This is what we expect from the common areas and dining rooms. Then use a low suspension above the tables, which will concentrate the light to give the effect of a large halo. Also think of very decorative light objects, lampshades or fairy lights.
- For practical lighting: Main lighting will allow you to see clearly. For the bathroom, it is ideal if it is recessed into the wall. The spots directed towards the ceiling, will make the light more pleasant. Consider installing wall lights or adjustable lamps near certain strategic places: a worktop, mirror, sinks ... to put on makeup or work more comfortably.
- To enlarge a room: The shaded areas participate in the narrowing of the room.

The ideal is to multiply the lighting points and to vary the heights: on the floor, a table, a high cabinet, etc.
